Champaign

Champaign is a city in Champaign County, Illinois, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 67,518. A special census was unanimously approved in April and results should be completed by December. Champaign hopes to add at least 4,700 residents to the population. The mayor is Gerald Schweighart, whose term will expire in 2007. The city is notable for sharing the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with its twin city of Urbana.
